Brexit fallout adds £142 to our petrol bill
THE ailing pound has added an average £142.56 in petrol costs to annual household bills for two-car families, a study reveals.
AA figures show it costs £3 more to fill a hatchback than a year ago as a result of sterling’s plunge following the Brexit vote.
Ahead of last June’s poll, the pound was worth $1.48 but now sits around $1.26.
On average, pump prices soared 5.4p a litre in the past 12 months.
AA President Edmund King said: “An extra £140 on a family’s annual petrol costs, courtesy of the weaker pound, has been a heavy burden.”
Prices are now around 111.5p to 112p a litre for unleaded and 112.5p a litre for diesel at Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.
