Alfie cut above the amateurs
ENGLAND already has an Open hero after Millwall fan Alfie Plant became the only amateur to beat the cut.
He is guaranteed to win the Silver Medal and join an illustrious group.
Plant, 25, from south London, said: “I’d like to see the names on that list,” after shooting 73, which featured a crucial eagle at the 15th.
When told the list included Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, Plant – whose brother Albert is on the bag and whose family are in a 150-strong Team Alfie fan club – said: “Well, that’s not bad is it? Hopefully, I will follow in their footsteps. That would be great.”
