‘Arrest death’ of fleeing man
CCTV footage of a man who died after being held by police has sparked claims of excessive force.
Rashan Charles, 20, fled a car stopped in Dalston, East London, in the early hours of Saturday. He was wrestled to the floor in a shop after police say he seemed to swallow an item, and appeared to stop breathing. Mr Charles was declared dead in hospital.
Police called for calm after locals took to social media to urge protests.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is probing the incident.
