Much is in the news about HS2 but I wonder if those who support this new £56billion rail link between London and the North even begin to consider the upset and misery for those about to lose their homes?

Older people who have been in the same house for years will have to move – and for what? Just so that a few people can get to a destinatio­n a little bit quicker.

Perhaps it’s time for the Government to look at the outrageous surcharge that the DVLA penalises people with if they opt to tax their vehicles for six months rather than 12.
