BURKE IS THE BEST OF BRITISH

-

UNFORTUNATELY is set to step up to the highest level after landing the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte yesterday.

In a finish dominated by the strong British raiding party, the Karl Burke juvenile held off Frozen Angel by half a length, with odds-on favourite Heartache, bidding to follow up her success in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, a short head back in third.

Burke (above), whose winner survived a stewards’ inquiry, said: “We’ll have to consider the [Group 1] Prix Morny [on August 20].

“A flat track like Deauville will suit him and six furlongs shouldn’t be a problem.”

ARROGATE suffered a shock 1-20 defeat when the world’s highestrated racehorse could manage just fourth of five in the San Diego Handicap at Del Mar yesterday.

“I think he just laid an egg,” said Arrogate’s trainer Bob Baffert.
