DAVID DE GEA is staying at Manchester United – after Real Madrid snubbed the chance to sign him.

United boss Jose Mourinho revealed Real were given the option to sign longtime target De Gea (right) this summer, but ultimately decided against it.

Mourinho said: “I can guarantee David is not going this season, it will be very difficult for him to go.”

He also praised United second-choice keeper Sergio Romero, adding: “The best thing that happened to David was the way Romero played in the Europa League. Until then, David was a safe choice.”
