Homes blitz on leasehold

RIP-off builders are to be banned from selling houses under leasehold.

Ministers will today say the practice must be restricted to flats with shared spaces.

Communities Secretary Sajid Javid said: “It’s clear far too many houses are being sold as leaseholds, exploiting homebuyers with unfair agreements and ground rents.”

He highlighted the case of a family house where ground rent is forecast to hit £10,000 a year by 2060.
