The £150billion space station
With a price tag of £150billion, the International Space Station was the most expensive engineering project ever undertaken.
The challenges of building a lab in orbit are daunting, but an international team of engineers overcame them, and the ISS was launched in 1998.
It has been occupied by up to six people at a time since 2000, with visitors from 17 countries doing space research and medical experiments.
It has also had a huge cultural impact, with astronauts including Britain’s Tim Peake inspiring millions of people back home on Earth. Impossible Engineering, July 27 on Yesterday
