SO-CALLED “legal highs’ were made illegal when the Psychoactive Substances Act came into force in May 2016.

New Psychoactive Substances mostly contain synthetic, chemical compounds which imitate the effects of more traditional drugs, such as speed and cannabis.

But they are often cut with ingredients which have not been tested on humans. NPS drugs were linked to 129 deaths in 2014.
