Tonight’s episode looks at the £4billion Panama Canal Extension, a project of unprecedented scale.

It excavated 150 million cubic tonnes of earth, and poured over four million cubic metres of concrete, creating gigantic flights of locks.

With each lock the length of four football fields, the 77km canal is capable of accommodating the biggest ships in the world. The mind boggles.
