MORATA: I’M WITH TOP DOGS NOW

- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

ALVARO MORATA insists he has always wanted to play for Chelsea and Antonio Conte – despite being close to joining Manchester United.

And the Spain striker believes he has signed for the “best club in England”.

Chelsea wrapped up a swift club record £58million deal for Morata from Real Madrid last week after missing out on Romelu Lukaku.

For most of the summer it appeared 24-year-old Morata was destined for Old Trafford, until United switched their attention to Lukaku.

Morata joined Juventus on loan in July 2014 four days after Conte quit the Turin giants before becoming Italy boss.

Morata, who got the jump in training on Cesar Azpilicueta (right) in Singapore, said: “It is the perfect situation.

“I decided to play in the Premier League and I want to play in Antonio’s team.

“I know Antonio wanted me in the past and I really want to work with Antonio, and finally destiny put us together. I can’t wait to play for him and for Chelsea and to win together.

“It is hard to leave Madrid but it is not so hard when you come to a club like Chelsea, with these players and with this coach. And I think we can play against Real Madrid and Barcelona and win. I signed with the best club in England.

“When I was little I watched with my dad and I saw Didier Drogba, Andriy Shevchenko, Fernando Torres and thought probably in a few years I will take their place. Now it is the dream to take the Chelsea No.9 shirt.

“I can’t wait to play at Stamford Bridge and in the Premier League.”
