Toffees up the ante for Gylfi
EVERTON have stepped up their chase for Gylfi Sigurdsson with a second bid worth £45million.
Boss Ronald Koeman is determined to land the Swansea midfielder despite being told by the Welsh club he is not for sale.
The Toffees’ latest bid – after a £40m offer was rejected – is understood to be made up of £40m with £5m in add-ons.
Sigurdsson missed his club’s pre-season tour of America last week, telling boss Paul Clement he was not in the right frame to travel amid the speculation.
Swansea value Sigurdsson at £50m and it is believed they would sell for a figure approaching that amount.
Should they accept Everton’s offer the fee would surpass the transfer record at Goodison, set when £30m keeper Jordan Pickford signed from Sunderland last month.
Koeman has signed seven players this summer in a bid to fight for a top-four place.
Sigurdsson has been among his top targets, along with Michael Keane and Wayne Rooney.
Swansea are targeting West Brom’s Nacer Chadli as Sigurdsson’s replacement.
