I’d like to comment on your reader’s problem regarding her grandad refusing to pay towards her wedding if her dad gives her away (Dear Coleen July 17).

My friend had a problem about who gave her daughter away – her natural father or the man who brought her up.

Their solution: the person who brought her up took her from the house to the church and then handed her over to her natural father to walk her down the aisle. Why doesn’t your reader’s grandfather and father think about a compromise like this? Brenda, via email
