Order your pizza with an Echo
Ordering a pizza through Amazon and then tracking its delivery could help Domino’s revive sluggish sales growth.
The takeaway chain, which has close to 1,000 outlets in the UK, has launched a voice ordering service on Amazon Echo and will issue all its delivery drivers with hand-held GPS devices to let customers know where their pizzas are.
“You’ll get a pizza to your door quicker,” said Domino’s chief executive David Wild.
Domino’s reported first-half same-store sales growth of 2.4%, down on the 13% growth recorded last year. Profits climbed 9% to £44.6million.
“The pizza delivery market is still growing and we have taken a bigger share but there has been a slowdown,” said Wild. “People have less cash to spend.”
Wild hopes its technological innovations, new promotions and opening more stores will boost demand.
McDonald’s has said global sales climbed 6.6% in the second quarter, with the UK registering a record April. UK boss Paul Pomroy said its Signature Gourmet Burgers had done well and would be rolled out nationwide.
