Carney set for Devils cover role in cup bid

TODD CARNEY’S future remains unresolved as he prepares to cover for injury-doubt Robert Lui in Sunday’s Challenge Cup semi-final.

The Salford stand-off has spent most of his career as the star man at various clubs, but has often had to settle for a supporting role to half-backs Lui and Michael Dobson this year.

With Lui a major doubt for the last-four showdown against Wigan, due to an ankle complaint which is in a protective boot, Carney (above) is set to start as the Red Devils bid to reach Wembley for the first time since 1969.

And the former Australia international prefers to focus on that rather than where he will play next season, with an unfair dismissal case against his old club Cronulla still ongoing.

Carney said: “I’ve still the case to settle next month, after the Challenge Cup, and, once all that’s dead and buried, I’ll decide on my future.”
