Window on reality of battle

-

ARMY veterans John Kidman and Bill “Spud” Hunt travel back in time through virtual reality headsets to explore life on the front line in the First World War.

Chelsea pensioners John, 87, and Bill, 83, tried on the goggles at the launch of the Battle of Passchendaele VR experience at London’s Household Cavalry Museum.

The exhibit, created for the Royal British Legion, combines first-hand accounts and archive footage to recreate the threemonth battle ahead of its July 31 centenary. The conflict led to an estimated quarter of a million casualties on each side.
