NORTH BEING PUNISHED

-

Even before Crossrail 1 is finished in London, Crossrail 2 gets the go-ahead (Mirror, July 25), yet only days ago the plug was pulled on electrification of the rail line between Derby and Sheffield.

In the 1980s, Margaret Thatcher went to war with the unions and the miners to punish them for bringing down Ted Heath’s government. It appears to me that this is all happening again – the people who brought down Cameron over Brexit, ie the older generation and those in the North, are now being punished.

First an attempt to pull the pension triple lock and the dementia tax proposals which backfired on them, and now they’ve scrapped plans to improve the North. The Northern Powerhouse was switched off ages ago. John Varley, Doncaster
