IT’S some going to be the nation’s favourite comedian for close to two decades.

BBC2 8pm (NEW) It’s been on our screens for 45 years – the quiz show with the toughest questions and the scariest theme music (which is actually called Approaching Menace for you fact fans).

And there’s still no shortage of brainboxes queuing up to sit in the famous black chair – 96 of them will start this series, but only one can be crowned champ.

John Humphrys will be grilling each one on their specialist subject which, for this first episode, include the four gospels, flags of the world, the films of Danny Kaye and Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy.

And before we move on to the general knowledge round, there’s always time to ponder what specialist subject you would choose, if you were ever to put yourself in the spotlight. For us, it’d have to be TV-related, obviously.

Possibly a study of Sex And The City, or the genius of Channel 4 sitcom Spaced.
