GEMILI GUTTED AT SPRINT SNUB
ADAM GEMILI is furious at athletics bosses after missing out on individual selection for the World Championships.
Gemili, one of only two Britons ever to go under 10 seconds for the 100 metres and sub-20 for 200m, has been picked only for the sprint relay.
His omission follows the selectors’ refusal to give him time to prove his fitness after a hamstring injury left him “trying to run with one leg” at the Trials. Gemili, who missed out on an Olympic 200m medal in Rio by threethousandths of a second, is now fit.
“This has been the most difficult time of my athletics career, worse than missing out on an Olympic medal,” said Gemili, 23. “It’s a shame as the 200m, with Usain Bolt absent, is so open.”
But a decision was taken, before last Monday’s deadline, to pick Zharnel Hughes to partner Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Danny Talbot.
