Emmerdale’s Pierce ‘would have walked free in real life’
VILE Pierce Harris was last night found guilty of rape in TV’s Emmerdale but the actors who played the key roles say it might have been more realistic if he had walked free.
Viewers saw Pierce jailed for the rape of ex-wife Rhona Goskirk. But crime research shows that most wife rapes go unreported.
Even when cases go to court, many husbands are found not guilty. Zoe Henry, 43, who plays Rhona, said: “It’s right that we are telling it this way. We don’t ever want to discourage anybody, male or female, from reporting a situation like this. But it would have probably been truer to life for Pierce to have gotten away with it.” Jonathan Wrather, 48, who plays Pierce said: “If he didn’t get found guilty, it would be like cheating the audience.” Six million viewers have been
following the storyline.
