1992 While still playing, starts his TV career, presenting Gladiators on a Saturday night. His “awooga” cry becomes his catchphrase.
1993 Sent off as he lies on a stretcher after a clash with Viv Anderson, with whom he had a long-running feud.
1995 As Aston Villa player, snaps knee ligament in a tackle with Ryan Giggs. Retires at end of season. 1996 Quits Gladiators. 1998 Elder brother Justin kills himself, eight years after coming out as Britain’s first openly-gay footballer.
2003 Comes second on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.
