YOUR SHOUT

-

Fiona, I found myself chuckling loudly while reading your piece about equality, drinking a much-needed coffee in Sainsbury’s cafe. My husband introduces me as “this is my wife, she just plays with kids all day”.

Just for the record Fiona, I’m a specialist paediatric occupational therapist working up to 12 hours a day covering a huge rural county. My main roles are palliative care, complex conditions and safeguarding vulnerable children.

But no – I just play... all day! I gave up correcting him years ago. Maybe that’s the problem with women today – we’ve been worn down to a state of submission. Julia, via e-mail FP: Never submit, Julia! Fiona, I thought I was the only one who’d vividly retained memories of The Two Ronnies’ The Worm That Turned sketch. I’ve always been convinced that one day we WILL be in charge. Tracey, via e-mail FP: We already are, Tracey, as wise John (below) has noted!

Fiona, are women not already in charge? Is the country in a better place? Love your column. John Gledhill, via email FP: Yes. No. And thank you, John

Fiona, you highlight bad care homes – here’s a good one: Charlton Park Care Home, SE7. My husband with Parkinson’s and dementia is there. All staff call patients by their first names and treat them with the utmost patience and care.

Rooms are comfortable, the food is good (I have meals with him often), relatives are treated with respect and any problems are sorted immediately. Elsie West, via e-mail FP: So sorry to hear your husband has Parkinson’s and dementia, Elsie, but very pleased to hear he’s being well looked after.
