Little Pea wants to be big hit

- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

JAVIER HERNANDEZ is determined to prove David Sullivan right by becoming a big hit at West Ham.

The Irons’ co-chairman labelled the striker, dubbed Little Pea, “potentially the best player who has ever come to the club” after his £16million arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.

Hernandez, 29, sat it out as the Hammers lost 1-0 to Werder Bremen last night.

But he said: “The only thing you want to prove is that he is right, but time will tell. It does give me a lot of confidence.

“I am not scared, I am glad about this challenge. It is a challenge in a positive way. Hopefully, I can be a good signing and the people will be happy with me.”

The Mexico star also remains well thought of at old club Manchester United, with Reds boss Jose Mourinho saying he would not have sold him in 2015 had he been in charge then.

Hernandez added: “I say thank-you for those words. I am always motivated when a trainer like Mourinho speaks well about me.”

United host West Ham in their Premier League opener on August 13, and Hernandez said: “I’m back at my old club, my old house. It will be special.”
