Boy, 2, hears mother’s first words of love

- BY SHANTI DAS

A BOY who was born totally deaf has heard his mother say “I love you” for the first time after having cochlear implants.

Moving video shows Kanon Newsome’s reaction after the first implant, in his right ear, was activated.

He looks confused and shocked as he hears mum Lindsey’s voice, but soon flashes a big smile.

Kanon, two next month, now has implants in both ears and is learning to talk. He has also found a love of blues and soul music.

His deafness was caused by a faulty gene, which was passed by parents Lindsey and Justin, both 27.

Lindsey from Emanuel County, Georgia, USA, said: “The implants changed his world. When he was first able to hear it was one of the best days of my life.”
