Welcome Mat is laid out again

- BY DARREN LEWIS and STEVE BATES

NEMANJA MATIC will be reunited with Jose Mourinho this week in a £40million move to Old Trafford.

The Manchester United boss has been trying to force through a deal since the end of the season, but after United hijacked Chelsea’s move for Romelu Lukaku relations between the clubs turned frosty.

But Matic – who won the league twice at Chelsea, once under Mourinho – reported for a medical yesterday and is hoping to finalise his move today. He has been pictured in a United training top.

That has sparked interest from Galatasaray in Marouane Fellaini, who may find himself out of favour when Matic arrives.

The extra money for Matic will allow Chelsea boss Antonio Conte to put pressure on the Blues to get into the market for his top targets, midfielder Antonio Candreva of Inter Milan, Juventus defender Alex Sandro and Southampton’s wantaway defender Virgil van Dijk.

Lukaku scored as United beat Valerenga 3-0 in Oslo.

Fellaini gave United a first-half lead while subs Lukaku and Scott McTominay netted in the second half.

Valerenga sit seventh in Norway’s top division but United looked sharper early on and Paul Pogba saw an effort hit a post.

Fellaini headed home from Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s cross. Lukaku headed home a Joel Pereira cross before McTominay, 20, netted his first senior goal for United with a half-volley.

They will head to Dublin next to play Serie A side Sampdoria on Wednesday.
