MESSAGE MISUNDERSTOOD
On October 25, 1854, in the midst of the Crimean War, the British commander-inchief ordered his light cavalry to attack Russians he believed were raiding their guns.
From his position, the cavalry commander couldn’t see the guns but he could see Russian artillery in the valley ahead.
What he didn’t realise was that the area was surrounded on three sides by the enemy. The British cavalry galloped unwittingly into a valley of death.
