Chinese puzzle of the Premier League shirts

- BY MATTHEW YOUNG

PREMIER League fans will be even more puzzled about who is sponsoring teams – as the game nets more foreign cash than ever.

Only four teams now have UK-based sponsors on shirts.

A string of Chinese and other Far Eastern gambling firms are making their mark on shirts, such as Ope Sports in a £1.5million deal with newly promoted Huddersfield and Fun88, worth £6million, to Newcastle.

West Brom has Chinese firm Palm Eco-Town in a £3million deal. Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are paid £3.5million and £6.5million by Asian firms M88 and ManBetX.

Kids’ replica shirts are banned from carrying betting logos.
