Record 665k recruited for NHS studies
THE number of people taking part in NHS medical research has soared to more than 665,000 a year.
The record figure is a 10% rise on 2015/16.
Almost all NHS Trusts and nearly half of GP practices recruited participants into clinical research in 2016/17, the National Institute for Health Research figures also revealed.
Jonathan Sheffield, head of the institute’s research network, said: “The increase in participants and improvements we are seeing in studies delivering to time and target are fantastic achievements.”
These were “contributing to better health and care outcomes”.
Health Minister Lord O’Shaughnessy also hailed the “excellent news”.
