SALAD SELLING LIKE HOT CAKES

-

Sausage rolls are still flying out of the door at bakery chain Greggs, but the firm says salads and breakfasts have helped boost its sales this year.

They climbed 7% in the last six months to £453million.

Greggs has opened 61 shops and closed 19 since January, and it said it plans more drive-through restaurants after the first in Irlam, Greater Manchester, proved to be a hit.

But Elissa Bayer of Investec Wealth said Greggs’ rise is not a bellwether for the rest of the high street, where online competition is fiercer.
