We’ll miss him

IN this world of increasingly stagemanaged royal events and slick palace PR, Prince Philip is a breath of fresh air.

Refusing to play it safe with banal pleasantries, he used events to engage with the public, even if his comments ruffled feathers. He gave up a promising naval career to walk a step behind his wife, and any success she has enjoyed as Queen must also be thanks to him.

He deserves to put his feet up, but the world stage will be duller without him.
