The Coastguard was among 10 teams sent out to help the youngsters, aged 12 to 17, and their 23 leaders. Cleveland Army Cadet Force were on the Mourne mountains during a summer camp in Co Down, Northern Ireland. Mourne Mountain Rescue said: “Weather has caught them out.” Several were treated at the scene.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said five children had minor ankle injuries and others were “feeling the cold”. He added: “The children will all be munching on burgers soon.”
