CAPITAL LOSS FOR BOOKIE
Punters cashing in on their football favourites last season hit profits at bookies William Hill.
With London clubs Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal all doing well, the bookie’s profits fell 11% in the first half of the year to £109million.
Champions Chelsea winning six matches in a row proved particularly costly, as did Spurs and Arsenal both winning five out of six games at the end of the season. The company said it had also seen a surge in betting on women’s sports, with a record £3million punted on the ICC Cricket World Cup, which was won by England.
