PROUD Emma delves into Brummie roots BBC1, 9pm

IT’S nothing new for the people involved in this show to shed a tear or two. Even if they vow not to, the waterworks usually kick in at some point.

BBC2, 9pm After last week’s slow series opener, which was relentlessly bleak, it’s good to see things improve. We flashback to the Lake from series one to find out more about what happened with Robin’s relationship and the wedding that never was.

Turns out she was all set to marry Johnno – even conducting the ceremony through the bars of his prison cell after he’s arrested for drugs – until she realises he’s been cheating on her and calls it off. And it’s that heartbreak, combined with wanting to meet the daughter she gave up for adoption aged 16, that sends her back to Sydney.

Now she’s working on the mysterious case of China Girl (as pathologist Ray christens her), who she soon discovers was pregnant. And who by sheer coincidence (or not) was living in the brothel where her daughter Mary’s weird older philosopher boyfriend Puss lives.

Ooh, this is all so complicated already. LONGING Robin in hunt for daughter
