Leeds say end ‘Prem cash’ gap

-

SOUR NOTE Radrizzani is concerned over payments LEEDS owner Andrea Radrizzani wants Premier League parachute payments changed to make the Championship fairer.

Parachute payments have risen sharply over the last decade in line with huge new Premier League broadcast deals.

And the Italian feels the gap between relegated clubs and those already in the second tier is too big.

Radrizzani said: “This is unfair. In two years’ time, we will have nine clubs with £100million budgets and the other 15 clubs with much smaller budgets.

“This should be regulated in a way that can close the gap.”

Radrizzani, whose buyout of former owner Massimo Cellino was compeleted in May, said he had invested £100million.

“But at the same time I’m focused on my team. I believe football is much more than money,” he said.

“It’s been shown, with Reading and Huddersfield reaching the play-off final at Wembley, and in the Premier League with Leicester.”

Radrizzani added: “We need to compete at the top of the league in the top six. I’d welcome promotion as a nice surprise, but our target is the play-offs.”
