He judged that dad spoke truth

Ordinarily, anyone interrupti­ng a judge in the process of sentencing a criminal could expect a night in the cells for contempt. So there must have been something a bit special about Peter Moon’s interventi­on from the public gallery at Leicester crown court as Recorder Robert Spencer-Bernard prepared to send down Peter’s 21-year-old son Connor for fleeing police after crashing a van.

“Please, please you can’t send him to prison… I beg you, he is not mentally able,” pleaded dad. The judge relented and Connor, who has mental health problems and learning difficulti­es, was placed on curfew instead.

Here’s hoping he keeps his nose clean.
