THEY’RE CHEATING ME OUT OF ELECTION WIN

President’s rant on Russia link probe

DONALD Trump has lashed out at enemies trying to “cheat” him out of the Presidency as legal moves against him intensified yesterday.

A Grand Jury will investigate his links to Russia, meaning witnesses could be called and records seized within days.

It provoked a furious rant from the President, who told a rally in West Virginia: “They can’t beat us at the voting booths so they’re trying to cheat you out of the future you want.

“They’re trying to cheat you out of the leadership you want with a fake story.”

Mr Trump appeared to question whether special counsel Robert Mueller – regarded as one of America’s most respected law officials – can be trusted to lead a fair inquiry.

He said: “I just hope the final determination is a truly honest one, which is what the millions of people who gave us our big win in November deserve.”

There is speculation Mr Trump may demand that Mr Mueller be sacked. The special counsel – who was director of the FBI for 12 years – was appointed after Mr Trump axed his successor as FBI chief, James Comey.

He will oversee a Grand Jury of 23 ordinary members of the public, who will investigate if there is a case to answer. The jurors do not decide guilt, but have huge powers to subpoena witnesses and demand the production of documents.

The President could be called to give evidence, as Richard Nixon was before a Watergate Grand Jury in 1975.

Donald Trump Jr and the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner could also be called to testify over their meeting last summer with a Russian lawyer.

There are reports in America that Mr Trump is now considering ordering his Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire Mr Mueller before the inquiry goes any further – sparking outrage from Democrats and Republicans alike.

Some congressmen are planning a cross-party bid to pass laws stopping Mr Sessions from firing Mr Mueller.

That follows the firing of the President’s press spokesman, Sean Spicer, his chief of staff, Reince Priebus, and his director of communications, Anthony Scaramucci – after just 10 days.

It comes as leaks showed the chaos in the White House, the latest exposing Mr Trump’s private conversations with the leaders of Mexico and Australia.

Attorney General Mr Sessions said yesterday: “We are taking a stand. This culture of leaking must stop.”

“We will not allow rogue anonymous sources with security clearance to sell out our country.”
