‘Rat urine in water on hols left me critical in hospital’

- BY PAUL BYRNE

RAT urine at a campsite left an angler seriously ill in hospital, it is claimed.

Anthony Wright, 48, collapsed with Weil’s disease after a trip to France and medics feared his kidneys would fail.

The dad of four, from Rye, East Sussex, believes he was infected after showering in lake water at the resort north-east of Paris.

He claimed: “There was no mains water. The owner said he had a filtration system but it wasn’t, it was just a chemical put into the water.” Carpet-fitter Anthony was rushed to hospital in May last year back in the UK. He said: “I was off work for six months and I could be affected for years.” He is taking action against the Lac Du Menhir resort, near Pont-Sainte-Maxence. Sarah Pople, from law firm Slater and Gordon, said: “We believe Lac Du Menhir failed to provide clean water.”
