Stars launch campaign to drive abuse out of football
FOUR victims of the football sex abuse scandal have joined forces to launch a charity to protect future stars.
Former England players Paul Stewart and David White, ex-Newcastle star Derek Bell and Ian Ackley, who played for Manchester City, first linked up at Wembley nine months ago.
Then, they met the FA in the wake of the abuse probe and felt they could “make a difference” at grassroots level. Safeguarding And Victim Engagement (SAVE), their notfor-profit organisation, will lobby for change and support sex attack victims. They are backed by England stars Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle, Gary Mabbutt and Trevor Sinclair plus Republic of Ireland’s Niall Quinn. Mr Stewart, 52, said: “We want to help to protect children across all sports.” For further details, visit twitter. com/saveassociation
