SANTO’S IKEME PLEDGE

NEW Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo says Carl Ikeme’s plight will be their “inspiration” this season.

Goalkeeper Ikeme, 31, (right) was diagnosed last month with acute leukaemia and is undergoing chemotherapy.

The devastating diagnosis ripped through close-knit Wolves. Ahead of his sold-out first game in charge, Santo, 43, said: “What happened with Carl was a big punch for us.

“But we know he is a fighter and his character says he is going to get through this. He is an inspiration for the boys.

“We expect the supporters shouting his name out loud for all the family who’ll be there.”
