Calv’s got keys to King Dom
EVERTON hero Dominic Calvert-Lewin believes he will be given the chance to prove he deserves a firstteam spot – because manager Ronald Koeman backed young players to shine in his previous job.
Amid Koeman’s £100million supermarket sweep in the transfer market, England Under-20 World Cup winner CalvertLewin became the Toffees’ Europa League supersub by springing from the bench to hit the winner against Ruzomberok.
And although Koeman (below) immediately dampened the 20-year-old forward’s prospects of a regular place in the starting XI, revealing he wanted to sign TWO more forwards this month, CalvertLewin is encouraged that his manager gave young players a fair crack at Southampton.
As Everton were handed a play-off draw against Hajduk Split, Calvert-Lewin (top) reflected on his golden summer.
The young forward, who scored the winner against Venezuela in the Under-20 World Cup final in South Korea said: “The coach gave youngsters a fair chance at Southampton and hopefully he will do the same thing at Everton.
“He’s put a few of young lads in the side and we’ve taken our chances. Now I have to prove that I’m good enough to play for Everton.
“The main objective on Thursday was to come on and affect the game and, if I continue to do that, hopefully my future will be at Everton.
“It’s been an amazing summer for me, but now I need to kick on in my Everton career.”.
