Banned runners who won again
GATLIN isn’t the only sprinter to win gold after serving a ban.
Yohan Blake, Bolt’s own Jamaican training partner, was excluded for three months after testing positive for a stimulant in 2009.
Blake, 27, has gone on to win two Olympic golds – one at London 2012, the other at Rio last year – and two World Championship golds.
In 2014 fellow Jamaican star Asafa Powell was banned for six months because of a stimulant that was found in his system. Powell, 34, said a legal supplement he took was contaminated. Since returning, he has won Olympic and World gold.
US athlete Tyson Gay, 34, served a one-year ban after testing positive for an anabolic steroid in 2013, and was stripped of his London 2012 silver. He thought he had won relay bronze at Rio last year but the team was disqualified
for a violation in the race.
