ARRIVEDERCI ROMA,RIYAD

- BY DARREN LEWIS

ROMA have cooled their interest in Riyad Mahrez as Leicester stand firm on their £50million valuation.

The Italians are now looking at Real Madrid wideman Lucas Vazquez (right) after their third bid of £31.6m for Mahrez was rejected by the Foxes.

Leicester are determined not to sell their former PFA Player of the Year, 26, on the cheap in the current inflated market.

They continue to value him at £50m and are prepared to keep him beyond the close of the transfer window if their price is not met.

Mahrez (left) handed in a transfer request at the end of last season after a below-par campaign. He has admitted concern that another club could be put off signing him after Arsenal switched their attentions to Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

Mahrez said: “I know Roma came in, but nothing was accepted so there is little I can do. They are a great club who I would like to talk to, but I can’t until Leicester accept a deal.

“Leicester know my thoughts, but I will continue to give my best for the club as I always have.

“Clearly it is flattering whenever you get linked with any big clubs, but as it stands, I have not talked to anyone as nobody has had a bid accepted.

“But we have nearly a month left of the transfer window so we will see what happens.”

Leicester are monitoring the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, set to leave Swansea for Everton for around £50m within the next week.

The Foxes believe they are entitled to value title-winning Mahrez just as highly as the Iceland midfielder.
