UNITED BOSSES SINCE FERGIE: A FEW CUPS BUT NO TILT AT TITLE...

-

2013-14 The post-Fergie era started with Everton’s David Moyes being appointed as his successor. But the so-called ‘Chosen One’ struggled in the league and in Europe. Moyes was sacked in April, less than a year into his six-year deal, as United finished seventh in Prem.

2014-15 Dutchman Louis van Gaal was hired to bring some experience back to the United dugout. LVG’s playing style didn’t win many fans, but the club at least finished fourth and returned to the Champions League.

2015-16 United were expected to build in LVG’s second season, but were disappointing. They crashed out of the Champions League after finishing third in their group, and were then knocked out of the Europa League by Liverpool. Despite winning the FA Cup, a fifth-placed league finish was not enough for LVG to keep his job.

2016-17 The arrival of the ‘Special One’ Jose Mourinho was expected to see the club return to the glory days of Fergie (above). Despite a sixth-place finish in the league, United qualified for the Champions League after they won the Europa League, their second trophy after they also lifted the League Cup.
