BLUEBIRDS CAN FLY KEN TO THE PREM

Morrison urges Dane to stick around

-

SEAN MORRISON has backed hotshot Kenneth Zohore to become a Great Dane... but insists he can hit those same heights by sticking with Cardiff.

Danish Under-21 international Zohore, 23, fired home a stunning late winner to get the Bluebirds’ campaign off to a flier.

It’s hardly surprising then that a number of clubs are showing an interest in prizing him away from the clutches of Neil Warnock.

The hitman seems destined to reach the top after hitting 12 goals in the second half of last season, before netting twice for Denmark in the Under-21 European Championship.

But Morrison believes he can achieve all his ambitions with Cardiff as they endeavour to live up to their billing as promotion dark horses.

“Why wouldn’t clubs be interested in him? it’s completely understandable,” said the Bluebirds captain.

“But I know he wants to play for Cardiff and get this club back into the Premier League, as we all do.

“He was unplayable at times last season – a player 99 per cent of Championship defenders don’t want to play against when he’s coming at you.

“If we can keep him fit, I am sure he will pass last season’s 12 goals by a country mile.”

Warnock laughed off suggestions he may have a fight on his hands to keep Zohore beyond the transfer deadline. “I hope he scores 10 goals before the end of the month. He still won’t be going anywhere,” stressed Cardiff’s manager. If Burton needed any reminder they face another uphill struggle to defy the odds and survive in the Championship again, then it was provided by Zohore’s strike. “It’s bitterly disappointing to lose the first game in front of your own fans, but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves because this league is unforgiving,” said striker Lucas Akins. “It’s a missed opportunity, which will make us even hungrier.”
