WALSALL keeper Mark Gillespie saved two first-half penalties – and still ended up on the losing side.

Saddlers boss Jon Whitney said: “He works a lot with the goalkeeping coach on penalties.

“They go through all the players and try to work out which way they are going to go.

“Mark makes up his mind early which way he is going to dive.”

Gillespie denied former Premier League striker Jermaine Beckford and Chris Maguire – two of Bury’s 18 summer signings. But ex-Leeds and Everton star Beckford won it with his 45th-minute header.
