BLACKADDER

YESTERDAY, 10pm You could argue that every episode of Blackadder was a classic, but this one – Potato – is half an hour of pure joy.

Sir Walter Raleigh (Simon Jones) has just returned, but Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson) is in no mood to celebrate. Raleigh has just discovered potatoes, and Melchett plans to smoke his, but Blackadder scoffs: “People will be eating them next.”

Determined to upstage Raleigh at the Queen’s Court, Blackadder is stung into action. Watch out for guest star Tom Baker, who hams it up magnificently as Captain Rum.
