Contador calls time
FORMER Tour de France winner Alberto Contador has announced he will retire after Spain’s Vuelta. The Spaniard, 34, is one of only six riders to win all three Grand Tours – France, Italy and Spain. Contador won the Tour de France in 2007 and 2009. He was stripped of the 2010 title after failing a drug test. He said: “I will ride the next Vuelta from August 19, it will be my last as a professional cyclist. “I say this happily, without sadness. “I don’t think there is a better farewell than a home race in my country.”
