PALS of troubled singer Sinead O’Connor have flocked to the star after she released a harrowing video of her suicidal thoughts.

In the 12-minute footage on Facebook, Sinead, 50, said she was alone at a £53-a-night Travelodge motel in the “a**e end of New Jersey”.

The Nothing Compares 2U singer told fans her psychiatrist was the only person “keeping her alive” as she continues to battle mental illness.

But in a post on her Facebook page yesterday a friend wrote: “Hi everybody, I am posting at Sinead’s request, to let everyone who loves her know she is safe, and she is not suicidal. She is surrounded by love and receiving the best of care.”

In the video, posted from the bed of her room in Hackensack, the Irish-born mum-of-four had said tearfully: “I hope this is somehow helpful. Not to me, but the fact I know I am one of millions and millions just like me, that don’t necessarily have the resources I have. There’s absolutely nobody in my life except my doctor, my psychiatrist, the sweetest man on earth, who says I’m his hero.

“That’s about the only f ****** thing keeping me alive, the fact I’m his hero... and that’s kind of pathetic.”

She went on: “Mental illness, it’s a bit like drugs, it doesn’t give a s*** who you are.

“Suddenly all the people supposed to be loving you and taking care of you are treating you like s***.”

Pouring her heart out, Sinead – who lost her mother when she was 19 – said her present troubles were sparked by a falling out with her family. She added: “If it was just for me I’d be gone. Straight back to my mum ... because I’ve walked this earth alone for two years now as punishment for being mentally f ****** ill and getting angry no one would f ****** take care of me.”

Last week’s breakdown came 16 months after she went missing in Chicago for 24 hours.

That came a week after she alleged US comic Arsenio Hall had supplied drugs to pop star Prince. Hall denied it and sued, but dropped the case after she apologised.

The songwriter rose to fame in the 1980s with her debut album The Lion and the Cobra. Married three times, she has battled depression and had a breakdown in 2012. A strong critic of the Catholic Church over its handling of child abuse, Sinead once tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II live on telly.
