Private firms safety fears

Plans to outsource night-time supervisio­n in probation hostels will also put people at risk because staff may be poorly-trained and low paid, unions fear.

Three unions have written to Justice Minister David Lidington. Unison’s Ben Priestley said: “People are potentiall­y being put at risk because private firms have not delivered on keeping the public safe.”
