CAM ON, STUB IT OUT
David Cameron seems to be enjoying his retirement. A picture on Instagram from this weekend’s Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire (don’t worry, I haven’t heard of it either and I actually live in Oxford) shows him, drink in one hand, cig in the other.
But there’s a serious point here. The falling rates of smoking in the UK over the past decade have been a major public health success. Is it really acceptable these days for an ex-PM to be photographed smoking?
All serious figures in the public eye, including David Cameron, arguably have a duty to promote healthy living. If he can’t set a good example to kids, then who else can be expected to?
If he wants to smoke, he should do it behind closed doors – perhaps those of the £25,000 garden shed he’s just bought for his £1.5million second home in the Cotswolds.
